Premam was released on 29 May 2015 in India, followed by UAE on 11 June. The film received positive critical response, with praise for direction, acting, cinematography, editing, humour and songs. Produced at a budget of ₹4 crore (US$560,000), it grossed an estimated sum of ₹60 crore (US$8.3 million) worldwide. making it one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of all time. It became the first Malayalam film to run for over 200 days in Tamil Nadu.The film had a theatrical run of 151 days in Kerala and 259 days in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The film was also remade in Telugu in 2016 with the same name.
